THE SILVER BIELEFELDER
Our own, proudly made in Canada at Grade Eh Farms. These are cousins to the Crele created by poultryman Gerd Roth in 1970s Germany. The Canadian version has been bred for faster point of lay and larger frame compared to its recently imported Florida cousin the Bielefelder Kennfarbig. This chicken breed is still relatively young breed even in its native Germany. You will find ours to have a larger rectangular frame. Genetically they are some of the strongest birds we have. The huhns produce of 225-250+ XL brown eggs per year and typically lays at 5.5 months compared to its cousins 7-9 month point of lay. This is the proper combination of a utilitarian bird given the hens are smaller while the roosters outweigh its cousin by approximately 1.5 lbs. Now thats a dual purpose we can all appreciate! We continue our practice of biosecurity and test in accordance with WA NPIP even though we are a Canadian farm. Our flocks are pastured to endure winters and have adapted for elements north of the border. Our hope is that you preserve for the future and that a few lucky farms will enjoy these as much as we do. If you have questions feel free to ask. We are hoping for other like-minded farms to work with.
Similar to the Crele, the silver is an auto-sexing breed as well.
