Grade Eh Meatball
Who doesn't love a good meatball? For those who want to be more food savvy in 2021, we are offering something new: Grade Eh Farms' Meatballs. These are intermediate heritage-type meat birds provided for us by a small family hatchery and while they are little round morsels of goodness they aren't intended to lay eggs. These are a great source of protein in a shorter length of time than traditional heritage or show birds.
Everyday we are bombarded with talks of lock downs and collapse of the food system. These will allow you to produce food faster in the event that a need arises. We have received emails asking for a cost effective meat bird with optimal feed conversions. Due to the amount of requests, we have decided to offer these through 2021.
The Grade Eh Meatballs will thrive on pasture and are natural foragers. It is a cross that can be harvested from 65 days and beyond. On average these can produce a male bird 5-6 lbs in 90-100 days. You can raise them for longer if you like for a large roaster. Several years ago when we trialed a few batches at some local small farms, we heard of a 16+ week old bird that weighed in as much as a small turkey at 10 lbs.
Without the massive growth of a commercial Cornish, these little balls of meat are very active on pasture thus producing flavour tastier than the regular white Cornish cross but without the long grow out time of a heritage bird.
If you are in the market for a bird similar to Loong Kong chicken, this is a great choice and compliments many Asian dishes.
For the small grower, the Meatballs are another option for your clients who want a healthy, ethical and cost-effective option. These birds can attain good growth with no complications associated with larger growth poultry. They do have large quantity of breast meat. With the rising cost of non-GMO and organic feed, the feed conversion of the Meatball is more cost effective to raise than our signature Poulet de Delta or the Heritage Line.
Availability is limited and must be ordered 25 at a time.
Buon appetito

We are Looking for Partners
If you are located in the Lower Mainland and have interest in growing meat birds, we are looking for small growers to partner with in producing artisanal pastured chicken. We can provide the chicks for little or no cost and Matthew can come up and teach you the finer points of raising pastured chicken for meat. This is a good opportunity to develop or better serve your customers and ours. If you are interested, please contact us.
