This is the chick collection we offer exclusively to the backyarders. This is the rainbow collection. You will find out at around 16-20 weeks what exactly your laying hens will be giving you for fresh coloured eggs. We do our best to provide you with multi-coloured eggs. Breeds are selected for compatibility. We will pick the birds for each collection and you will discover what breeds you have as they grow. Below is a list of possible breeds included in this year's Backyarder Rainbow Collection. You can refer to the list as your chicks develop. If you take a tour of the Fraser Valley and some of Vancouver's surrounding cities like North Vancouver, New Westminster, Squamish; and in Victoria and other Vancouver Island municipalities, you will be amazed at the types of chickens you see in people's backyards!
female chick guarantee
We will only provide vaccinated chicks for this season. There will be no pullets or grown hens this year. For backyard chicken hobbyists, please check your local regulations. We guarantee 97% accuracy in the female chick guarantee. Very seldom do roosters accidentally get mixed in the collection. We will do our best to provide you with female chicks. In the rare event that you get a male chick, we will have a female chick ready for you during our next availability date. If there are no female chicks available at the time that you discover that you have a rooster, we will give you credit equal to the original cost of the chick and can be used with us for future purchases. We cannot take back the rare accidental roosters but usually they will be really nice considering our selection of breeds and through advertising online, you may be able to command a good price if you cannot keep it. There are lots of farms in the Fraser Valley area that are always on the hunt for good roosters as pets or for show.
Typically the birds we sell for this collection can be shown in poultry competitions. Others may be crosses of heritage breeds. If you are one of the growing group of folks fortunate enough to own chickens, we do encourage you to bring the kids out and show off the hens or become a member of a local poultry fanciers club. Ours is the Fraser Valley Poultry Fanciers. There are some really great people at the events. Come out and show off your Light Sussex, Barnevelders, and New Hampshire hens.

We cannot take special breed requests for this collection. We do our best to provide you with multi-coloured eggs. Birds are also selected for compatibility. For our out-of-province customers. The Backyarder Rainbow Collection was originally created for the local market but we are happy that there is a growing interest from distant or out-of-province hobbyists. For those that require shipment for this collection, please keep in mind that our female chick guarantee is only for the price of the chick, in the rare instance that you do get a rooster, you will have to be willing to pay for new shipping and handling cost if you choose chick replacement instead of a credit for future purchases.
Pick-up of birds for North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Vancouver, Squamish, New Westminster, Surrey customers will be in Ladner or Tsawwassen. For residents of Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Langley, Hope, Mission, we can can provide you a quote for Blue Heron courier to deliver the birds to you.
For other locations like Kamloops, Vancouver Island etc.., we can discuss shipping or other pick-up arrangements.

BacKyarD Chicken Certificate with Your Purchase
We can provide a certificate to our Backyarder Rainbow Collection customers similar to the one shown below. It will be sent by email in PDF. We find that our customers, especially the kids really like receiving this certificate as a remembrance on when they received their birds. It also gives the kids a sense of responsibility to care for their new backyard friends. If you would like one, please mention it in the comments part of the Order Form. Also, let us know to whom you want the certificate addressed to.
